Forklift and load centre of gravity
The load also has a centre of gravity. If the load shown is a perfect cube and two diagonal lines are drawn across it, the centre of gravity would be exactly in the middle as shown by the orange spot. This assumes that it is a uniformly distributed load. (As an example, a wooden box filled with fine sand).
When the load is placed on the forks of the truck the centre of gravity of the load and the truck combine. This is known as the composite centre of gravity. The effect of this is to move the centre of gravity of the truck forwards towards the load.
